The Southern Nevada Health District is encouraging Hispanic locals to get tested as a part of National Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

On Oct. 17, the health district will be offering free HIV testing between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Gay and Lesbian Center of Southern Nevada.

In Clark County, Hispanics account for 23 percent of people living with HIV/AIDS.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that approximately one in 36 Hispanic men and one in 106 Hispanic women will be diagnosed with HIV during their lifetime.
