Memorial Day events, things to do in Las Vegas | 2020

Although Memorial Day is going to look much different this year for everyone, there are still some things happening in Las Vegas and surrounding areas.

The annual Memorial Day ceremony at the veterans cemetery in Boulder City has been canceled. However, virtual ceremonies are being held online for southern and northern Nevada cemeteries. READ MORE.

FRIDAY

5:30 P.M.
Vegas Baby Vodka is kicking off Memorial Day weekend with an at-home virtual pool party on Instagram Live. Vegas Baby Vodka will demonstrate how to create 2 at-home cocktails that are perfect for a pool party — Vegas Baby Lucky Lemonade and the Sex on the Strip shot.

7:30 P.M.
Sunset at the Barn on Boulder Highway will honor those who have gone before and helped to make America a better and safer place. Enjoy a free concert by Mama’s Wranglers from the safety of your car or bring a lawn chair. Social distancing encouraged. Bring your own snacks and drinks.

MONDAY

9 A.M.
A motorcycle ride will begin at Leatherneck Club on Spring Mountain Road and end at the Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City. Hosted by American Legion Paradise Post 149.

9:30 A.M.
American Legion Post 76 will host a short ceremony at Lake Sahara South Park in The Lakes neighborhood.

10 A.M.
There will be a patriotic car parade at 10 a.m. starting at Skye Center on Skye Canyon Park Drive in the Centennial Hills area.

NOON
Classic cars and other vehicles will cruise the Las Vegas Strip. "Hot Rods for Heroes" will begin at the Premium Outlet Mall on the southern end of the Strip. Organized by Las Vegas Cruisin' Association.

12:30 P.M.
A Memorial Day motorcycle parade will start at Foothills Southern Baptist Church on West Cheyenne Avenue. Sponsored by Legal Ride.

8:15 P.M.
The annual Southern Highlands Community Fireworks show will take place again this year. The fireworks will be shot from the hilltop at Olympia Sports Park on Star Hills Avenue. The park is closed, but fireworks will be shot higher than usual to improve viewability.

DINING

Honey Salt is offering a BBQ meal to go for 4 and a new cocktail to-go kit. The BBQ meal features buttermilk fried chicken or, baby ribs, sides and dessert. The cocktail kit features tequila Casa Dragones and is available through June 21 (Father's Day). The BBQ meal is $140 with chicken or $160 with ribs. The cocktail kit is $50.

Kona Grill is offering special family meals just in time for Memorial Day. The meals feature Kona sliders or avocado egg rolls, Margherita flatbread, Oriental salad choice of chili glazed salmon, macadamia nut chicken, shrimp pad thai, shrimp lemon garlic penne, and carrot cake. Other options include the 8 oz. Kona filet or 12 oz. Big Island ribeye. Prices are $60 for a meal for 2, $120 for meal for 4 and $180 for meal for 6.

Dine Out Downtown: The city of Las Vegas has set up two outdoor dining areas in downtown Las Vegas. One is located near California and Main Street and the other is located near 6th and Fremont streets. Residents are invited to purchases food and drinks from nearby restaurants and dine outside. RECREATION AREAS/ATTRACTIONS

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is open.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area's Scenic Drive and many other areas are closed.

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is open. Services may be limited.

Mount Charleston is open.

Lee Canyon is closed.

Hoover Dam is closed.

Bryce Canyon National Park is open (some areas may be closed).

Grand Canyon is open (some areas have limited access).

Winnemucca Sand Dunes in Humboldt County are open.

WATER PARKS/SWIMMING POOLS

Water parks and swimming pools ran by the Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Clark County are still closed. Water parks are hoping to reopen by June 1, but no dates have been announced.
