LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — It was a special day for comic book and sci-fi fans in the Las Vegas valley on May 4.

Comic book stores around the valley participated in Free Comic Book Day.

Peter Mayhew, the man who played Chewbacca, died earlier this week and fans told us they didn’t mind waiting in line a little longer to get a comic book featuring Chewie.

Ryan Roche told us that he believes there’s no better combination than Free Comic Book Day and Star Wars Day.

Margo Wade was also remembering Chewie on Saturday too.

“It’s really sad. Everybody knows him and everybody is going to miss him.”

Jay Bosworth, owner of MaximuM Comics, says that Free Comic Book Day brings a big crowd.

Rogue Toys hosted a candlelight ceremony to honor Peter Mayhew and Chewbacca on Saturday night.

Todd Fisher, brother of Carrie Fisher, was at the ceremony. Other speakers include “Pawn Star” toy expert Steve Johnston and fans from the Rebel Legion Star Wars fan club.
