Las Vegas Academy of the Arts Jazz Band to play at Monterey Jazz Festival

Competing with top high school jazz programs across the US, the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts Jazz 3 was selected as one of the top three high school jazz bands in the country and invited to play in the Big Band Division at the 2020 Monterey Jazz Festival.

This is Las Vegas Academy of the Arts Jazz department’s third time making the top three and invited to the prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival. This year marks the 16th time of one of LVA Jazz groups made the top 12 finalists invited to the for the Next Generation Jazz Festival.

Performances by hundreds of jazz groups around the country are narrowed to the top 12 groups in each category at Next Gen Jazz Festival.

The Next Generation Jazz Festival held April 3-9 were used to determine the top 3 three high school performing bands across all categories earning in an invitation to participate in the 63rd Monterey Jazz Festival.

Due to the COVID 19 restrictions, this year was extra challenging as groups played virtually or by submitted video.

In addition to sharing their music with fans at the festival, students will have the opportunity to hear jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, and Redman-Mehldau-McBride-Blade.

The 2020 Monterey Jazz Festival will be held in September.
