Rock Your School is a Nationwide effort to encourage educators to spend one day teaching out of the box.
At Hayes Elementary school, the day of interactive learning started with a surprise rock concert featuring local band, Spandex Nation.
Lead Singer Kid Hollywood has a son who attends the school. "It's important for kids to realize how important school is. We can't write lyrics, or read lyrics, if we don't go to school if we don't learn to read and write."
Every teacher and even the principal at the school donned their best rock attire for a day of interactive learning. Principal Mikie Young says, "The point is to give kids memorable learning experiences. something they can hold on to as part of their childhood and make it a tradition."
For hundreds of kids, this was their first concert. And they loved it. After the show they enjoyed classrooms that were transformed, lesson plans that were interactive, and even a glow room. Teachers say their goal at Hayes Elementary is to make learning fun.
