LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada held their annual Cookie Mega Drop event on Saturday morning as they are preparing for "cookie season."

The organization said the drop included 667,000 boxes of cookies that and would then be distributed to local Girl Scout families.

Cowabunga Bay was one of the most significant drop sites, as teams distributed over 103,000 boxes in less than three hours, helping to prepare Girl Scouts and troop leaders for the start of their selling season.

Traditional Girl Scout cookie booths are scheduled to run from Feb. 14 through March 1.

Representatives for the Southern Nevada Girl Scouts said they are anticipating to sell over 885,000 boxes of cookies in 2020 with all proceeds raised to stay in Southern Nevada and further help the organization.

The ultimate goal of "cookie season" is to help fund troop activities and to teach scouts about the importance of financial literacy, according to team leaders.
