Chaparral High School 12th-grader Rebekah Solorzano has received the grand prize in an art contest celebrating the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary.

Forever Resorts partnered with the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the Clark County School District School-Community Partnership Office to host an art contest for K-12 students. The competition encouraged all students to design an image incorporating both Southern Nevada’s park lands and the National Park Service’s Centennial theme of #EveryKidInAPark. Nearly 400 entries were received from schools across the Las Vegas valley.

As the grand prize winner, Solorzano will have her design incorporated into a collectible item or items sold at Lake Mead National Recreation Area’s visitor center retail store with proceeds benefiting Lake Mead. She also received a 4-day, 3-night houseboat vacation for herself and her family, departing from either of Forever Resorts’ two houseboating marinas within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area: Callville Bay Resort and Marina on Lake Mead or Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina on Lake Mohave.

First-, second- and third-place works of art were selected in the following categories: Pre-K to Grade 2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6–8 and Grades 9–12. The first-place winner in each category received a family four-pack of tickets for Black Canyon River Adventures smooth-water rafting tour on the Colorado River. Second- and third-place winners each received two tickets for the raft tour. The winning students’ teachers also received prizes.
