Feb. 15 was declared Girl Scout Cookie Day in the city of Las Vegas in honor of the 100-year anniversary of Girl Scouts selling cookies.

More than 200 local Girl Scouts attended a ceremony at Las Vegas City Hall.

"We are very honored to receive this proclamation from Mayor Pro Tem Ross," said Linda Bridges, vice president of sales and marketing for Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada (GSSNV). "We anticipate local Girl Scouts to sell more than 600,000 boxes of cookies this cookie season.   All proceeds raised stay in Southern Nevada and help local girls fund trips, complete service projects and attend activities such as Camp Foxtail.

GSSNV offers eight cookie varietals, including the newly launched S'mores, Thin Mints, Carmel deLites, Peanut Butter sandwich, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Lemonades and Thanks-A-Lot.  Girl Scout cookies are $5 per box and on sale through March 12 at Girl Scout cookie booths located at grocery stores and retailers.

This year Girl Scouts celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the first known sale of cookies by Girl Scouts.  The sale of cookies as a way to finance troop activities began in 1917, five years after Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouts in the United States.
