Melinda Sheckells, Las Vegas lifestyle and entertainment expert, shares recommendations on what to try this week and what’s happening around town in the realm of dining and drinking.

Chef Brian Howard and business partner John Anthony launch Sunday brunch at Sparrow + Wolf on July 26. Eclectic menu items include chilled shrimp and grilled baby artichokes with preserved lemon and miso vinaigrette; suckling pig katsu with country gravy; rolled omelet with dashi creme fraiche and smoked trout roe; escargot in green curry sauce; and duck confit cinnamon rolls. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is complemented by paired beverage options like the Bloody Hanako-San with Haku vodka and a crafted bloody mix with sweet, sour and spicy notes. Endless bubbles are also available, because it wouldn’t be brunch without them.

Off the beaten path, Don Vito’s inside South Point prides itself on serving affordable luxury in an elegant atmosphere. Expect portions of sharable, homestyle Italian food. Menu highlights include the crispy calamari, traditional Caesar salad, grilled halibut with lump crab meat and chicken parm. For a dash of comfort, the light and bright minestrone soup is traditional and tasty. Don Vito’s is ideal for a special occasion or date night.

Epitomizing fast-casual, check out mobile eateries Maize Street and Aspire Coffee House. Maize is a Latin American food truck serving breakfast and lunch items such as vegetarian enchiladas, breakfast tacos, avocado tacos and even a hot dog. A few days a week Maize teams up with mobile coffee shop Aspire. Created by business partners Mandie Gilbert and Lyndsi Lillis, Aspire specializes in superfood coffees, lattes and cold brew—think rooibos, matcha and chia, as well as keto coffees and lattes with vanilla ghee, MTC oil and cream. All syrups are made in house. The bite of the week is the Aspire paleo-friendly lemon bars, which are incredibly light and not overly sweet. Check both their Instagram pages for a weekly list of locations.
