The October 2016 issue of Skiing Magazine, a leading consumer ski publication, includes a feature article exploring Lee Canyon’s ski touring terrain.
Outdoor industry journalist Doug Schnitzpahn, who is also the editor of Elevation Outdoors, explored Lee Canyon’s backcountry/ski touring terrain in March 2016. His tour guide was Snow Safety Specialist Greg French, who he calls “the mayor of the Las Vegas backcountry.”
Schnitzpahn opens the article by giving the reader a good reason for his visit referring to the skiing at Lee Canyon. He goes on to describe Lee Canyon’s hike-to backcountry terrain as first-class. Lee Canyon’s hike-to ski touring terrain is included on its trail map, which visitors can pick up at the resort’s base lodge or view online.
Schnitzpahn closes the article by describing the snow conditions in Lee Canyon’s backcountry saying, “It beats the hell out of Brazilian strippers and millennial cocktail parities and tattooed dealers dancing on blackjack tables. Everyone could be a winner here, if they only knew how to find this.”
Also mentioned in the article is Lee Canyon’s complimentary coaching service for guests that has become an important part of its snow experience. Visitors have access to free coaching from professional instructors stationed throughout the runs.
