LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — While the holiday season this year is much different from other years in many ways, Las Vegas' Ward 3 is still hoping to help those in need.

Volunteers will hand out food donated by Culinary Academy to 500 families on Monday.

Pick up at the free drive-thru event is simple. Pull your vehicle around, pop your trunk and volunteers will load the food boxes in for you.

The event is only for families living in Ward 3, which includes downtown Las Vegas and much of the east side.

Las Vegas City Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, who represents the ward, says COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on her residents and she's hoping this will help families who are struggling.

The Ward 3 Food Pop-Up Drive-Thru takes place Dec. 14 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

It's free and open to any Ward 3 resident while supplies last.

Food boxes will include frozen chicken; fresh fruits and vegetables (onions, potatoes, cabbage, apples, oranges) rice, beans, pasta and oatmeal.

The drive-thru event is located at Desert Pines High School on 3800 E Harris Avenue in Las Vegas.
