Henderson continues to enhance the City’s downtown Water Street District through the talent of 13 handpicked artists who transformed 12 existing concrete benches into unique works of art.

The project was made possible through AARP’s Community Challenge grant totaling $12,000.

The benches, located along Army Street, were finished with a graffiti-resistant coating.

The theme, a celebration of water, was reflected in the benches with designs focusing on raindrops, a koi pond, the desert, and prehistoric fossils, among many others including more stylized interpretations.

Designs and applications were completed by 11 individual artists and one team of two artists in November. These artists were chosen from 60 submitted applications and include Henderson residents as well as those who recently relocated to Southern Nevada.

They have displayed their work in art shows held in the Las Vegas Valley – including Henderson’s Art Festival – and around the country.
