With the massive blizzard hitting the East Coast, Las Vegas is looking to help those in need.

United Blood Services is part of Blood Systems. As members of that network, United Blood Services centers step forward to help sister communities in the storm’s path, even across the country.

Blood drives were held Saturday at the Swainston Middle School cafeteria, Summerlin Library Theater Stage, Spring Valley Conference Room and EMG Cares Foundation, along with the West Charleston, Northwest and Green Valley locations of United Blood Services.

The West Charleston and Green Valley centers were open again Sunday until 2 p.m. There was also a blood drive at Galleria mall in Henderson in front of the Kohl's court on the lower level until 6 p.m.

Blood donation takes about an hour from check-in to refreshments. Donors can save about 20 minutes by completing their Fast Track Health History the day they donate online at www.UnitedBloodServices.org.
