According to new research, there might be an actual health benefit to have numerous tattoos.

Researchers at the University of Alabama found that getting multiple tattoos can boost an individual's immune system.

"Tattooing may stimulate the immune system in a manner similar to a vaccination to be less susceptible to future pathogenic infiltration," according to the study.

The first tattoo will make a person's immune system weaker. But, as the person gets more and more tattoos, their body gets used to the repeated stress.

Researchers collected saliva samples from 29 volunteers before and after they were given tattoos.

According to the study's authors, it is like going to the gym. At first, most people are sore from the increased exercise. But, eventually the body adjusts and begins to become stronger.
