The New York Police Department banded together to raise money to send a 7-year-old to Disney World.

Tyrone Lowe lost his parents in December after his father killed his mother and then took his own life a few days later. Police said Tyrone found his mother dead on the floor.

"He never had an opportunity to go to Disney World with his mother," said David Lepore of NYPD Community Affairs. "He'll never have an opportunity to go to Disney World with his father so we did what we can to be that secondary family for him."

The 7-year-old was greeted by Mickey and Minnie Mouse and trumpets when he learned the news, according to ABC 7 New York.

"Dreams do come true," he told ABC 7. "They're great. They're awesome. Thank you. I love you."

Officers also put in $5,000 into a college fund for Tyrone and are continuing to raise money for it.

His aunt has been taking care of Tyrone and will accompany him to Florida, according to the New York Daily News.
