Country superstar George Strait has been announced as the first resident headliner at the new MGM arena that is currently under construction on the Las Vegas Strip.
The announcement was made on Tuesday morning, ending months of speculation. Performances will begin in April, and Strait said "I'm very excited to be coming back out and playing for the fans out there."

Strait had announced last year that he wasn't going to tour anymore. But, he also said that he was not planning on retiring. At the press conference Tuesday morning, he announced that a new album, Cold Beer Conversation, will be released on Friday. Strait called it "one of the best records I've ever done."

By the time the April shows arrive, Strait estimates it will have been a year and 10 month since he and his longtime band performed together, other than at awards shows.
