A post on Facebook about an act of kindness by a cashier at a Target store in Indiana is going viral.
Sarah Owen Bigler says in the post that she was initially irritated when she got in line and she saw an elderly woman counting coins to pay for her items.
That irritation turned to admiration for the 19-year-old cashier named Ishmael Gilbert as she watched him treat the woman with respect and even held her shaking hands at one point.
The customer then became grateful when she noticed that her young daughter watching the interaction between the cashier and the elderly woman and realized that her daughter was being taught a valuable lesson. She even admitted that she needed a refresher on the same lesson.
Bigler was so impressed that she made it a point to find a manager afterwards to compliment Gilbert's treatment of the woman.
After the story got out, Gilbert was interviewed by The Indianapolis Star. He told the newspaper that it felt good to be recognized but that he treats all customers the same.
Gilbert's mother was also proud of him and also posted on Facebook.
