Vegas Golden Knights president Kerry Bubolz announced Monday that Zappos would become the presenting sponsor for the VGK sled hockey team.

Bubolz said the Las Vegas-based company has pledged to support the team financially, covering the team's travel and equipment needs. The company will also help in fundraising efforts throughout the year.

"We are proud to partner with Zappos on this important initiative that promotes inclusivity in our game," said Bubolz. "Their support will help bring our sled hockey program to new levels."

Zappos' head of charitable giving Steven Bautista said the company had been looking for an authentic way to connect with the Vegas Golden Knights since the team was Vegas born last year.

"We believe in encouraging change and inclusivity whether that's with shoes, clothing or sports," said Bautista. "Everyone should have an opportunity to do what they love and pursue their passions."

Sled hockey is a sit-down version of the sport of hockey, for players whose disabilities may prevent them from being able to play the stand-up version.

The Vegas Golden Knights sled hockey team began to take shape last January with an initial $25,000 donation from the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation.

The sled hockey team will make its debut at T-Mobile Arena Wednesday, playing an exhibition game during an intermission. The team will begin tournament competition in January, traveling to Anaheim to take on Pacific Division rivals. This season, they'll go on to compete in tournaments in Chicago, Denver and Tampa.
