A 9-year-old cancer patient wants to give back to other kids in the hospital along with his newest best friend: a dog named Zeke.

James Kish has been busy teaching his new golden retriever puppy, Zeke, some new tricks. He wants him to take after another dog named Zack.

"He's another golden retriever I met at the hospital," James said.

James has been in and out of hospitals battling brain cancer for the past two years. A couple would bring Zack, a therapy dog, to the hospital to visit.

"He let me lay down on him. He came to the hospital almost every day!" James said.

James wanted a therapy dog just like Zack, so a number of people in the community came together and raised more than $3,000 to make it happen.

"It absolutely blew me away, the support of the community," said Amy Schildknecht, James' mom.

Schildknecht says James wants to take Zeke to the hospital to visit other sick kids.

"They're going to feel happy, kind of like how I did when I met [Zack]," James said.

James and his mom are now looking for a therapy dog trainer so Zeke can get his certification.
