The 47th annual World Series of Poker officially kicked off Friday at the Rio hotel-casino.

It began at 10 a.m. Friday with Colossus II, which has a $7 million guaranteed prize pool and $1 million prize to its eventual winner. The tournament has two flights for each of the next three days and players can by in as many times as they want provided they have been eliminated in earlier runs.

The first "smaller" field tournament will take place on Saturday. The $10,000 Seven Card Stud World Championship will start at 4 p.m. and many of the top professional gamblers in the world are expected to participate.

Other popular events in this year's tournament include the Millionaire Maker, Monster Stack, Little One for ONE Drop, a seniors event and ladies championship.

An event for the employees was held earlier in the week.

The action will continue over the next 7 weeks until July 18. For more information, click here
