A pedestrian was killed while crossing Sahara Avenue near Valley View Boulevard Sunday evening.

Police said the woman was outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by an Isuzu SUV around 6:05 p.m.  The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The woman was identified as 50-year-old Ana Edy Garcia of Las Vegas.

"A lot of people got out from their cars and tried to help the person," said a witness who did not give her name.

Witnesses heard the crash and saw the woman trapped under the vehicle.

"They were trying to revive her with their hands, doing CPR," said the witness.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was transported to UMC Trauma where she was pronounced deceased.

Witnesses told investigators the pedestrian was at the median when she darted in front of cars, said Sgt. Richard Strader.

The driver of the SUV pulled over at a nearby parking lot.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash, Strader said.

Once again, police urged the public to always utilize crosswalks. But even at crosswalks, pedestrians must exercise extra caution, Strader said.

"Don't hope it stops, make sure it stops," said Strader. "Make eye contact with the driver."

A portion of Sahara near Las Verdes Street was closed for nearly five hours as police processed the scene.

This was the 7th traffic-related death in 2016.
