LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — What are the odds that people actually Storm Area 51 next month as suggested by a viral Facebook post? Well, just like anything else in Las Vegas, you can bet on it.
Except this is one instance where you won't be losing any money in a casino.
What started out as a Facebook prank has taken on a life of its own. County governments and tiny desert towns are scrambling to deal with a possible onslaught of thousands of alien enthusiasts, festival goers and people watchers who just want to take it all in.
"With that much interest at least on the digital side it’s there. It will be interesting to see if that carries over to the physical side. Are people actually going to show up for this?"
And the folks at the Westgate sportsbook are no different. Jay Kornegay is the Director of Operations of the Westgate SuperBook.
"Our collective minds got together. And we joke around quite a bit and we have a lot of fun back there,” Kornegay said. "So, this was really easy for us to come up with these propositions that we thought might get a couple of chuckles.”
Here is the list of Area 51 Proposition Bets.
While we don’t know yet whether Storm Area 51 is going to be a real event, these are definitely not real bets.
"This is definitely just for fun! We are not actually taking wagers on it. It's certainly against gaming regulations. So, this is as we call it is entertainment purposes only.”
And the team is curious about the numbers such as how many will end up submitting RSVP to the Facebook group.
“We had a lot of fun with that one because. We thought a lot of people, you know it’s easy to RSVP online. So, we put up a number and we came up with 1,7500,000 ½. "
And their guess on actual attendance?
"Compared to how many people will show up. Well, that number is only about 49 ½," Kornegay said.
