CORRECTION: A previous article regarding the UNLV medical school needing more funding was inaccurate. The corrected story is below.

The proposed Nevada state budget provides funding to the UNLV medical school set to open this summer.

During the 2015 Legislative Session, Gov. Brian Sandoval and the state legislature allocated $26.7 million in funding to support the UNLV School of Medicine over a two-year period. The 2017 proposed state budget references an additional allocation of $13.1 million over the next two years.

The strategic plan for the School of Medicine always called for a phased approach for full funding as the school ramped up over a 10-year period.

Simultaneously, the School of Medicine is working to raise more in private funds. The $13.5 million or philanthropy to fund full-ride scholarships for the original class was the launch of the fundraising. The first class will come to campus in the summer of 2017.
