The Commute Challenge: Putting traffic apps to the test

MAY 22: Today's morning commute challenge went from Knickerbocker Park to the Clark County Government Center. Here are the results:

  1. Google Maps
  2. Driver with no app
  3. Waze App
  4. Apple Maps

UPDATE 6 P.M. MAY 21: In a surprise victory, Apple Maps was victorious in our commute challenge. Earlier in the day we asked our Facebook followers who they thought would arrive first and Apple Maps driver only received 5% of the vote.

Here are the final results of today's commute challenge.

  • Driver 4 arrived at 5:57 p.m. using Apple Maps app
  • Driver 1 arrived at 6 p.m. using Local's own road knowledge
  • Driver 2 arrived at 6:05 p.m. using Waze app
  • Driver 3 arrived at 6:09 p.m. using Google Maps app

Tonight at 5 p.m. on 13 Action News, you can watch live as the drivers go from the Clark County Government Center to Anthem Hills Park using

Driver 1 will use their own knowledge to navigate to the destination. Drivers 2-4 will be using the routes given to them by their apps. All drivers will be driving the speed limit for their route.

Chopper 13 will be keeping track of each of the 4 drivers and we'll be monitoring them on GPS to see who will reach the destination first.  You can also watch it on Facebook live on the KTNV Facebook page.
