Suspicious package found at Beatty gas station deemed safe

A suspicious package found in Beatty Monday was later deemed safe.

Around 11:30 a.m., the Nye County Sheriff's Office responded to Eddie's World Gas Station in Beatty for a report of a suspicious suitcase left abandoned alongside an electrical charging location.  

Upon arrival, deputies secured the scene and evacuated individuals in the area.  The Nye County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Nevada Highway Patrol and the Beatty Volunteer Fire Department.  

The Las Vegas bomb squad was contacted and responded to the scene including members of the FBI, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.  

An investigation was conducted including the use of a bomb dog and robot and the determination was made that there were no explosives within.  

The suitcase was opened and discovered to have personal belongings within.

The Nye County Sheriff's Office took possession of the suitcase and is attempting to identify the owner.

There was no explosion and no injuries. Sheriff's officials said in light of the happenings in the country, precautions were taken to ensure the residents of Beatty were safe.
