Early morning fire causes $60K in damage

A homeowner tried to get an outdoors fire under control with a garden hose before it spread to a house early Sunday morning.

Fire dispatchers received numerous calls around 12:10 a.m. that heavy smoke was coming from the rear of a house at 732 Bedford Ave., near Valley View Boulevard and Alta Drive.  One of the callers was the homeowner who said there was a fire outside and he was using a garden hose in an attempt to put it out.
 
Within minutes Las Vegas firefighters were on the scene of a fire on the outside of the house and it had spread to the attic of house.  Firefighters found heavy fire conditions in the attic. They were able to bring it under control within ten minutes.
 
Fire damage was mostly to the attic.  Damage was estimated at $60,000.
 
The fire originated in a storage area outside of the house.  
 
The American Red Cross is assisting one displaced adult.
 
There were no reported injuries.
