Reno police have arrested a suspect in a murder that may have stemmed from a stolen-weapons deal gone bad involving guns and explosive caps taken from a law enforcement agency in California.

Police arrested 34-year-old Michael Kizer in Sparks Thursday and charged him with open murder in Tuesday's fatal shooting of 37-year-old Patrick McDaniel in an apartment parking lot east of the Peppermill hotel-casino.

Police said Friday they determined McDaniel was in possession of firearms, ammunition and explosive caps stolen from California law officers prior to the shooting.

Sgt. KC Myers said McDaniel and a friend transported the stolen items to meet with Kizer as part of a sales transaction but Kizer produced a gun and shot McDaniel multiple times.

Kizer allegedly fled in McDaniel's car, which was recovered the next day. The California law agency hasn't been identified.
