SolarCity has said that it will stop selling and installing solar panels in Nevada after a vote by the Public Utilities Commission crippled business.

The decision doesn't just affect residents who are considering solar for their homes, it has also resulted in layoffs.

Pilar Apostolo's husband was laid off the day before Christmas Eve. She says that they did not realize that so many people would lose their jobs because of the decision by the PUC.

The PUC decided on Tuesday to raise rates over a five-year period for so-called metering customers. That includes about 17,000 Nevada customers with solar panels who sell excess energy from their systems back to NV Energy.
