Sheriff Lombardo announces new protocols for officers, cancels events

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Sheriff Joe Lombardo has announced new protocols for police officers and has canceled community events because of the new coronavirus.

The community events include First Tuesday meetings, commendation ceremonies and community outreach events at area commands.

Officer memorial events that were set to take place during Police Memorial Month in May have also been canceled. The memorial run on April 29 and May 7 memorial service in Carson City has also been canceled, as well as the May 21 memorial event by Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Foundation..

All work-related travel has been suspended and the sheriff is advising employees to keep their work spaces clean and sanitized.

Patrol officers have been directed to maintain their distance and wear disposable gloves when making arrests. In addition, all gear and patrol vehicles are to be disinfected regularly.

Cleaning crews are doubling their efforts at the Clark County Detention Center.

Citizens are encouraged to use online services when possible.
