LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — It called the Great Nevada ShakeOut and it's happening at 10:17 a.m. Oct. 17.
Those participating will drop to the ground, take cover and hold on for 60 seconds.
Oct. 17, marks the 30th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake on California's central coast that killed 63 people in 1989.
As one of the largest emergency drills, the hope is to prepare the community for big earthquakes.
An emergency alert will be sent out on all platforms Thursday at 10:17 a.m. ahead of the drill.
