Senior apartment gutted by fire

A fire gutted an apartment in a senior complex around 2 a.m. Saturday, causing $45,000 in damage.

The fire happened at the Sunrise Senior Village Apartments in the 500 block of North 30th Street. Firefighters say the one-story building was engulfed in flames when they arrived. They were able to put out the blaze within five minutes.

The cause is currently under investigation. One adult was able to escape without injury and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No other injuries were reported.
