One person is dead after a crash involving a scooter.
It happened on July 8 around 9:46 a.m. near Tropicana Avenue and El Capitan Way.
Evidence at the scene says scooter was traveling eastbound on Tropicana Avenue, west of El Capitan Way.
The scooter failed to maintain its travel lane by drifting to the left and striking the raised center median.
The scooter operator, 66-year-old Gilbert Jerry Pacheco was not wearing a helmet and he was ejected. The scooter continued traveling eastbound (riderless) where it struck a westbound vehicle.
The scooter operator was transported to UMC Trauma Center and admitted with critical injuries.
On July 9 around 2:50 p.m., Pacheco was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
This marks the 53rd traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2016.
