UPDATE: Police release footage of suspect who robbed woman, killed man near Rancho Dr.

UPDATE DEC. 6: Police are asking for help identifying the suspect that robbed a woman and murdered Kolton Sawyer near Rancho and Vegas drives. The footage below shows the suspect running away from the scene of the crimes.

UPDATE DEC. 5: The Clark County coroner has identified the deceased as 26-year-old Kolton Sawyer of Las Vegas. Cause of death was a gunshot wound to the neck. His death was ruled a homicide. 

UPDATE AT 11:35 P.M. Neighbors tried to comfort each other after  a robbery ends up as a murder.

A woman, who did not want to reveal her name, said she was walking home Friday afternoon along Rancho near holly when a man she didn’t know approached her. “This guy asked for a cigarette,” the woman said. She said no. “The next thing I know, he ran up on me with a gun and told me to give him my money.”

The robber got even more aggressive. “He pointed a gun to my head and said ‘(expletive), give me your money,’” the woman said.

She threw the money at him. The crook took off running. “I thought he was going to shoot me,” the woman said.

The robbery victim told three friends, including George Horn, who along with two other men chased the robber.

Police said Horn’s friend confronted he criminal, who opened fire, killing the Good Samaritan. “He pointed the gun and said ‘back off,’” Horn said. “Very shook up right now. Pretty hurt.”

The woman the criminal robbed blamed herself in a crime that wasn’t her fault. “He tried to help me and now he’s gone,” she said.

UPDATE AT 4 P.M. Lt. Dan McGrath has released more details surrounding the man killed in the 1900 block of Allen Lane.

The incident apparently began as an armed robbery as the suspect attempted to rob a woman near Rancho Drive and Holly Avenue. The victim saw neighborhood acquaintances ride by on bikes and those men proceed to chase after the gunman.

The gunman became winded and confronted by one of the bicycle riders. That is when the gunman opened fire, killing the good Samaritan.

The gunman then ran into a nearby apartment complex and is still on the loose.

ORIGINAL STORY

Officers responded to the scene of what they thought was a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian on the 1900 block of Allen Lane, but when they arrived they found a person with several gunshot wounds dead in the street around 1:05 p.m.

There's now a perimeter set up in the area of Rancho and Vegas drives and Detwiler Elementary school is on lockdown.

The suspect is currently on the loose.
