HENDERSON (KTNV) — The Weber County Sheriff's Office in Utah has identified the pedestrian killed in Henderson on Dec. 20 as retired Lt. Marva VanSlate Whitehead.

The sheriff's office says that she worked for their office from 1990 to 2008. They also said that she was an "excellent" lieutenant who did her best of the sheriff's office and its citizens.

Many of those commenting on her death on Facebook called her patient and caring and said they were inspired by her leadership and grateful that she was a part of their lives.

The 75-year-old woman was crossing Wigwam Parkway near Green Valley Parkway when she was struck by a vehicle. Henderson police believe she first walked in front of a Ford 150 that was able to stop. However, she was hit by the driver of an Acura.

The retired officer died at the scene. The driver stayed and cooperated with police. It does not appear that the driver was impaired in any way.

The fatal incident is the 12th traffic-related fatality for Henderson this year.
