LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — It's been three months since Garrett Meriwether was killed by a speeding teenage driver who admitted to drinking before the crash.

Garrett's father, retired metropolitan sergeant Steven Meriwether and his family are trying to make something positive out of a heart breaking loss.

On Sunday, family, friends and the community will gather at Kellogg-Zaher Sports Park for the first 5k/1 Mile walk to raise funds for scholarships in honor of Garrett.

The first event will benefit students from Palo Verde High School, interested in going to UNLV.

Garrett graduated from PVHS in 2018 and had just finished his Freshman year at UNLV.
