"Today Show" host Matt Lauer is the latest high-profile celebrity to be fired after being accused of sexual misconduct in the workplace.

The list is multiplying. Dozens of celebrities, politicians, and journalists are now facing serious allegations!

The fallout is having an impact right here in our area.

"A year ago maybe we're seeing one a  month, for sexual harassment consultations. Now i'm probably seeing one a day," says Atty. Patrick Kang.

For 10 years, Kang has helped employees handle abuse in the workplace.

"It's so common, it's so common, that  the fact that it hasn't been addressed completely before now is pretty appalling."

Starting with the Harvey Weinstein fallout, claims of sexual harassment and assault continue to rock powerful figures in the media.

Many have lost their jobs.

Daniele Dreitzer of the Rape Crisis Center says the shift in the conversation about sexual harassment has empowered victims.

"Now that people seeing okay if I say something, there will be consequences for this person. It will be taken seriously," says Dreitzer.

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, majority of rape cases are not reported to police.  Now, more are speaking up.

"When somebody comes forward and says their car was stolen -- you don't see a response that goes well, I'm gonna reserve judgement and not really believe your report on your car being stolen because 10-15% of these reports aren't true," says Dreitzer.

Data shows about 2-10% of sexual abuse allegations are false.

Attorney Patrick Kang has seen cases like these, but he says these are few and far between.

"Those are unfortunate because they do takeaway from actual victims's abilities to pursue their cases."

Daniele Dreitzer say, there's the bottomline.

"No you can't always prove what happened. that doesn't mean  that we shouldn't believe the person coming forward."
