Local teachers are suggesting a new approach to better funding for schools.

The Clark County Education Association released a report for Nevada lawmakers to consider allowing local schools to raise their own taxes.

The report says, "We believe that local funding should come with strong accountability measures to ensure new revenue is spent on proven intervention strategies to advance student achievement. And we believe Nevada's students can't wait for a lengthy and expensive overhaul of the Nevada plan."

Right now, schools in the Clark County School District cannot raise their own taxes. The report says lawmakers could pass a bill in the upcoming 2019 legislative session allowing schools to do so.

The money would be a combination of revenue sources. It would have to be approved by the Clark County Commission or voters.
