Posted
On Monday, a 69-year-old man from Reno was sentenced to life in prison for killing a man during a bank robbery.

On Oct. 16, 2013, Van McDuffy entered a Bank of America, pointed a gun at the teller and demanded money. A customer near the teller being robbed told McDuffy to "get out of here." McDuffy turned and fatally shot the customer. He took money from the first teller, demanded money from a second teller, then fled the bank.

An off-duty Reno Police Department officer was in the bank at the time of the robbery and followed McDuffy. He apprehended McDuffy at a bus stop across the street.

McDuffy was indicted on Oct. 20, 2013, and found guilty on robbery and murder charges on Aug. 17, 2016.
