A Reno man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for stealing an elderly person's identity and drug trafficking.

KRNV-TV reported Wednesday that 44-year-old Douglas Wayne Goins had been considered a habitual criminal based on six prior felony convictions. He pleaded guilty in two separate cases back in August. He will be eligible for parole after eight years.

Detectives had begun investigating Goins and two others last year on suspicion that they used the identity of a 62-year-old Reno man to apply for credit, which they used to buy hunting and fishing equipment they later pawned.

Goins was stopped in March for a traffic violation and arrested on the fraud charge. Authorities also found 10 grams of methamphetamine on him and a charge of drug trafficking was added.
