Unseasonably cold weather has triggered a freeze warning in Las Vegas, set a record low in central Nevada and could push overnight temperatures below zero for the first time this season in northeast Nevada early Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says the low of 7 degrees (-14 Celsius) at the Eureka Airport Monday broke the old record of 15 (-9C) set in 2011. The mercury dropped as low as 9 degrees (-12C) at Jarbidge near the Idaho line, 12 at Jackpot (-11C) and 15 at Ely (-9C).

The service says a low of minus 8 degrees (-22C) is forecast for Ely on Tuesday, minus 2 (-18C) at McDermitt and zero (-17C) at Elko.

The freeze warning runs from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday in parts of Clark and southern Nye County where lows near 30 (-1C) are expected.
