LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Honda Recall Team in Las Vegas is knocking on people's doors to inform them that there continues to be a recall on certain Honda models.

A lot of car owners think the team are solicitors or that they are a behind a scam.

Sammuel Smith is the Honda district recall coordinator, he and his team are on a mission to let people know Honda's recall is urgent and that the Takata airbags can cause a serious injury or death.

"I go to 15 to 20 homes a day. We just want to get the airbag inflators replaced,” says Smith.

Smith told 13 Action News several models -- mainly older ones -- are on the recall list.

"The most common vehicles are going to be the CRV, the Accord, and the Civic," says Smith.

The recall list also includes: Element, Pilot, Ridgeline, and the Odyssey.

The Honda Recall Team replaces the Takata airbag inflator at no charge; people can also request the service to be done at home or a dealership.

"We do it for free. It's a 100% free repair. Most of our repairs take 25 [minutes] up to an hour at most," says Smith.

Smith cannot stress enough how important it is to get those airbags replaced, he says it can be a life or death situation.

A chemical drying agent used in the inflators could cause airbags to rupture. If it bursts, some Takata airbags cause shrapnel to explode forward into passengers and drivers, injuring or killing some.

Although, Honda made the first recall back in 2013, the Honda Recall Team faces some trouble to get through to some car owners in the valley.

"[The door hanger] explains what the recall is a little bit about. There's an 800 number on the bottom. It's a direct number to Honda so if you're worried one of us comes to your door, call and they verify whoever is on the business card," says Smith.

The team encourages people to do their due diligence, but they ask to act sooner rather than later for the sake of safety.

"We want to come to you, fix this as soon as possible, and move on to the next person," says Smith.
