LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The first day of school is August 12 and parents are swarming the stores for last-minute back to school shopping.

Several moms and dads tell 13 Action News they spent more than last year.

"Probably about $300."

"It seems like every year it gets a little higher!"

The National Retail Federation reports back to school shopping is at its highest.

NRF estimates families spent nearly $697 this year, that's up about $12 more than 2018.

Families with college students are expected to spend approximately $977, which is up from last year’s $942.17.
