Quinceañera Expo comes to Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — There was glitz and glam of another kind in Las Vegas over the weekend with the Quinceañera Expo in town.

With exquisite gowns and performances, Sunday's expo was about all things quinceañera.

“I think it means that the little girl is not going to be so little anymore, and I’m getting older and I’ll start doing more things,” said Emily Inman, who will have a quinceañera.

It’s an important coming of age event for girls in Spanish-speaking cultures. Around 2,000 people attended the expo -- the first outside of California.

“We see that we have a big population of our Latino community and I know how bad these parents want to these expos to help plan for their daughter’s celebration," said Jocelyn Orozco with El Clasificado.

A celebration that requires many elements aside from the crown and gown.

“You need the DJ, you need the venue, you need the catering services," Orozco said. "Your photography and makeup, so anything you need to plan your party, we have it here.”

It’s planning that will require stretching the pocketbook.

“It can be I would say, the least, starting at $5,000, sometimes even $40,000,” she said.

A mother says it’s an investment she’s willing to make as she prepares for her daughter’s next chapter in life.

“That’s the hardest part. Just letting go. We’ve done all we can for her and time to let her go and hopefully they’ve learned from what we taught them,” Lydia Inman said.
