LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Nevada Department of Transportation is celebrating the “Grand Finale” of Project Neon on Thursday in downtown Las Vegas.

NDOT Director Kristina Swallow, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen, U.S. Congresswoman Dina Titus, among other dignitaries attended the special event.

Project Neon was a $1 billion, 3-year-long upgrade to Interstate 15 from the U.S. 95 interchange to Sahara Avenue.

It’s currently the busiest stretch of highway in Nevada with 300,000 vehicles daily, or one-tenth of the state population, seeing 25,000 lane changes per hour. NDOT says traffic through the corridor expected to double during the next two decades.

Road closures for Aug. 8 include:

  • North and southbound Industrial Road will be closed between Western Avenue and Utah Avenue from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.
  • Grand Central Parkway will be closed to event traffic only between Charleston Boulevard and Western Avenue from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
  • Western Avenue will be closed between the Neon Gateway and Industrial Road from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Motorists should take alternate detour routes, if possible.
