Nev. police unions back Cortez Masto for Senate

A coalition of Nevada law enforcement unions is announcing support for Democratic Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto.
Cortez Masto's campaign announced endorsements Wednesday from the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers, Peace Officers Research of Nevada, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Southern Nevada Conference of Police and Sheriffs. The latter group includes the Las Vegas Police Protective Association and organizations representing Henderson and Las Vegas police supervisors.
Cortez Masto's previous job as Nevada's attorney general involved frequent work with law enforcement. Representatives from the unions cited her initiatives to fight human trafficking and her support of funding more police hires as reasons for the endorsement.
Cortez Masto is in a competitive race with three-term Republican Rep. Joe Heck for the Senate seat being vacated by Harry Reid.
