The leader of a Henderson synagogue has announced she'll run for the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Joe Heck.

Democrat Jacky Rosen said Tuesday that she'll run for the 3rd Congressional District seat, which includes Henderson and Summerlin.

She's the president of Congregation Ner Tamid and has lived in southern Nevada for more than 35 years. She started her career as a programmer and software developer.

Several Republicans have announced plans to run for the seat, including state Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson, Danny Tarkanian, Assemblywoman Michele Fiore and Andy Matthews, the former chief of a conservative think tank.

Democratic lawyer Jesse Sbaih has also announced plans to run in the district, which has a slight Democratic registration advantage but has elected a Republican in recent cycles.
