New Year's Eve celebrations are just hours away, and everyone from hotels to the police are preparing for Thursday night. But a post being shared all over Facebook is giving some people pause.

We found a post being shared around Facebook that alleges a New Year's Eve threat to the Las Vegas strip. It's been shared about 1,200 times.

The poster says it's a screenshot of a text message from a friend who is a police officer but it didn't show his name. He warns her there is a credible threat to the Vegas area and it's being investigated by the FBI and Homeland Security. He said he had to take his equipment home and be on call.

But the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it is just a rumor.

They sent us a statement saying, "It is unfortunate that someone chose to post highly flammable information sent via a text message."

Las Vegas police have been preparing for New Year's Eve for months and reinforced there is no credible threat.
