UPDATE ON MARCH 24: The Clark County coroner has identified the deceased as Nicholas Caples of Las Vegas.
13 Action News spoke with a friend of the 18-year-old.
"I'd like everyone to remember him as a really good and caring person," said Asher Postma, "a great friend, almost as if he was your brother."
Friends said Caples transferred to Arbor View in the middle of high school. We're told he was originally from California.
Right now, police say the district attorney is reviewing the case. Officials have released no information regarding any charges.
Police are investigating a shooting at a home in the 10200 block of Yarmouth Sea Court, which is near Farm Road and Hualapai Way in Centennial Hills.
According to police, a man shot and killed his brother during some sort of domestic dispute. It happened around 3 p.m. Friday.
The man who was shot was transported to UMC Trauma when he later died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
The brothers are 18 and 22 years old. Police said the 18-year-old brother was the one killed and that he had a knife at the time of the shooting.
Two parents were at home during the shooting. Detectives are investigating the surviving family members.
Investigators are trying to determine what led to the confrontation between the brothers. They have heard variations of the story, including what the mother told dispatchers when she called 911.
"The older son is the one that shot the younger son for trying to stab his mother," according to dispatch records.
At this point, police are working to determine whether the shooting was in fact self-defense.
