Police believe homeless man drowns after jumping into Bellagio fountains

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a possible drowning in the Bellagio fountains in the 3600 block of Las Vegas Boulevard around 10:12 a.m. Friday.

Upon arrival, they discovered the body of a man in the lake in front of the Bellagio hotel-casino.

During a press conference, police said that a homeless man, believed to be between 40 and 50 years old, jumped into the lake around 10 a.m. He then began swimming towards the middle. When it became evident that he was struggling, a tourist also jumped in, but was unable to reach the transient. By the time police and the fire department arrived, it was too late.

The Clark County coroner will determine the official cause of death and identify the deceased after relatives have been notified.
