Plane returns to McCarran after takeoff due to 'unusual noise in the cabin,' lands safely

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A flight from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, Calif. needed to turn around and land back at McCarran International Airport on Tuesday night.

A 13 Action News viewer sent us video from Southwest Flight #1462, saying the flight was diverted approximately 20-30 minutes after takeoff.

Southwest Airlines says the plane landed safely and there was no emergency declared, citing an "unusual noise in the cabin" as the reason. Read the full statement below.

Southwest Flight #1462 returned to LAS shortly after departure due to an unusual noise in the cabin. There was no emergency declared, and the flight landed safely. We continued the flight to Los Angeles onboard a different aircraft so that our Technical Operations Team could check the original plane. We appreciate our Customers’ patience during this delay.
